Worldshops arose from the realization that the countries of the South are systematically disadvantaged when trading their products on the world market and that having pity is of little help in combating this disadvantage. Donations are often necessary to alleviate the worst consequences of disasters, but they do little to change the injustice in trade between North and South. That's why worldshops go a bit further. They make a piece of the world a reality as it could be tomorrow - fairer and more humane.
"Alms corrupt the soul of the giver as well as the taker, and to all intents and purposes defeat their purpose, for they aggravate poverty."
Fyodor Dostoevsky
